What is a rip current?

How can you identify a rip current from the beach?
Look for a narrow, choppy channel of water that is darker than the surrounding water.
Find areas with less wave activity.
Spot swimmers who are having fun.
Notice where people are standing in shallow water.
What should you do if caught in a rip current?
Swim parallel to the shore to escape the current.
Swim directly back to the shore as fast as you can.
Float on your back until help arrives.
Panic and scream for help immediately.
Submit
